The Greater Grand Rapids Area, including the surrounding West Michigan areas has received from great press in the last 5 years. Most recently, Thrillist ranked Grand Rapids, MI as one the top areas to consider moving to. You can see that article here.
For those that have already figured that out there is some interesting data to view based on expected property value increases in 2017. In analyzing data derived from Inman Market Intel and Weiss Analytics there are some interesting facts to share. Since the tail end of 2012, the Greater Grand Rapids Area has seen both tremendous and steady growth.

One of the items of consideration is proximity to major populated areas. Over the last 5 years, one of trends has been that the more population in a given area the more the appreciation. On average in 2017 the average home prices are expected to appreciate in the 7% range (that is on pace with 2016.) Interestingly when you break the numbers out and look at the trends in relation to population density, the areas in the 4.3-7.1 miles and 7.1-13.6 range might actually see increases closer to 8+% this year.
